Aurora: What was your inspiration behind your most recent novel?
Cindy Callaghan: I write for tweens, or what I like to call “sweet teen.” That is, a book that hits the tween demographic with slightly more mature topics, done in a way that lacks edge. This is more challenging than it sounds, because many pre-teens are curious about “edge,” while parents, teachers, and librarians are looking for clean.

In Saltwater Secrets I wanted to tell an engaging, entertaining, and exciting tween story that would appeal to all those audiences.
